July brings the Summon Overhaul update, reshaping the standard banner with returning Heroic towers including Forest Mage. The monthly quest line also awards Forest Mage through three unlock stages—6, 26, and 28 quests—giving players a guaranteed path alongside summon RNG.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

Every round in Retro Tower Defense follows the classic tower defense loop: enemies spawn in waves along a fixed path, and your towers automatically attack anything within range. You earn Tix by defeating enemies and completing waves, which is the primary currency for summoning new towers from the gacha-style banner system.

Tower placement matters significantly. Ranged units perform best on elevated surfaces where they can maximize their line of sight across multiple path segments. For boss waves specifically, save your burst cooldowns and focus fire on the boss while your AoE towers handle the escort minions. Positioning a Noli or Mage with direct sightlines to the boss spawn point can cut boss fight duration dramatically, preventing leak damage that would otherwise end your run.

Start on Crossroads in Normal mode to learn path layouts and tower range mechanics without the pressure of Hard mode scaling. Complete daily missions every day for steady Tix income, and never summon without at least 500 Tix banked so you can do multi-pulls efficiently.
