August 2026 is still the Forsaken Collab window (August 21–September 4) plus the live Yorick Heroic and Gunner Epic kits. Chance the Void unit, four Forsaken maps, badge skins (Jane Doe, Hyperlaser Chance, 4x4x4x4), and Forest Mage Dusekkar in the Token shop are the content players are searching for this week.

Late-August code cleanup removed TRAITS+SECRETS, MMMPIZZA, TRADING, and TRAFFIC. Redeem 1stBirthday first for the Birthday 1x1x1x1 skin, then FREETIX, NEW, RETRO, V3RT, GULLIBLE, and the 50 Tix character codes. Farm Tix with Tycoon on Crossroads or Forsaken Rift before the collab shop converts Tokens.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

Every round in Retro Tower Defense follows the classic tower defense loop: enemies spawn in waves along a fixed path, and your towers automatically attack anything within range. You earn Tix by defeating enemies and completing waves, which is the primary currency for summoning new towers from the gacha-style banner system.

Tower placement matters significantly. Ranged units perform best on elevated surfaces where they can maximize their line of sight across multiple path segments. Melee towers should be positioned at chokepoints where enemies cluster together. Support towers like Helper Bot should be placed centrally so their buff radius covers as many damage dealers as possible.

Upgrading towers during a round increases their damage, range, and special ability potency. However, you must balance spending on upgrades versus saving Tix for future summons. Early waves reward aggressive upgrading, while later waves and boss encounters demand that you have high-tier base towers already placed.

Progression and Economy

Tix is the backbone of progression in Retro Tower Defense. You earn it passively during matches, through daily missions, by redeeming promo codes, and from event rewards. The summon system uses Tix to roll for towers across five rarity tiers: Starter, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Heroic. Heroic towers have roughly a 0.31 percent pull rate, making them extremely valuable.

Codes provide free Tix boosts that accelerate your early progression. Active codes like 1stBirthday, FREETIX, NEW, and RETRO are redeemed from Inventory (gift bag, top-right of the panel), not a HUD Codes button. Trading adds a player-driven economy layer where you can exchange duplicate towers with other players. This system makes it possible to target specific units without relying purely on summon RNG, though you will need valuable trade bait to acquire top-tier heroics from experienced players.

Advanced Strategies

The current meta favors a core trio of Mage for AoE magical damage, Noli for single-target boss burst, and Helper Bot for team-wide buffs. Supporting this core with Rocket for debuffs and Tycoon for bonus Tix generation creates a well-rounded loadout capable of clearing every difficulty mode.

Traits and secrets add another layer of optimization. Traits provide passive bonuses to individual towers, while secret towers are ultra-rare units with unique abilities that can redefine your entire strategy. Understanding which traits synergize with your main DPS towers is key to pushing into Hard and Insane modes.

For boss waves specifically, save your burst cooldowns and focus fire on the boss while your AoE towers handle the escort minions. Positioning a Noli or Mage with direct sightlines to the boss spawn point can cut boss fight duration dramatically, preventing leak damage that would otherwise end your run.

Tips for Every Player

Start on Crossroads in Normal mode to learn path layouts and tower range mechanics without the pressure of Hard mode scaling. Complete daily missions every day for steady Tix income, and never summon without at least 500 Tix banked so you can do multi-pulls efficiently.

Join the community on Discord and follow official social channels for code drops and update previews. Multiplayer runs with coordinated teammates who bring complementary towers can clear content faster and earn more rewards per hour than solo grinding.
