Sniper vs Hyperlaser Sniper
Sniper is the Common long-range unit you can summon or start with. Hyperlaser Sniper is the Epic upgrade path in the same family—higher damage, hyperlaser shots, and the Hyperlaser Chance collab skin. Searches for “sniper Retro Tower Defense” usually want this cheap cliff unit, not the Epic.
Community August 2026 lists put Sniper around A-tier among commons: it covers long straights on Crossroads, Happy Home rooftops, and SFOTH platforms before you own Mage or Gunner. It falls off on Citadel Hard and Endless past wave 40 unless traits carry it.
Ranged placement rule still applies: Sniper belongs on elevated tiles. A ground Sniper wastes the kit. If the map has no cliff, park it on the tallest roof that sees two path segments.
When to Keep Sniper in the Loadout
Keep Sniper while you farm Tix for a ten-pull. Replace it when Gunner, Hyperlaser Sniper, or a Heroic takes the same elevation tile. Do not run Sniper and Hyperlaser Sniper together unless you are filling two distant roofs.
On Forsaken Rift the long lanes favor Sniper until Hyperlaser Chance is unlocked—the skin sits on Hyperlaser Sniper, not this Common. Clean Sweep still does not require owning Sniper.
Upgrade range before raw damage if escorts leak around a bend. Pair with Rocket slow so packs stay in the beam. Helper Bot overlapping both is the cheap core for new accounts.
